2024 Canoe Cultures at the PNE
The PNE along with its partner Canoe Cultures is thrilled to announce a special FREE two-day festival of indigenous music, arts and culture as the featured exhibit on August 30th and 31st in the Festival Park area of the Fairgrounds.
“This festival builds on the three-year partnership between the PNE and Canoe Cultures,” says PNE President and CEO Shelley Frost. “This has become a very special place of celebration and learning at the Fair, and we are very pleased to elevate its location to the heart of the Fairgrounds.”
This years’ event has been given the name Tatus Festival, which means “star” in the traditional language of the Nuu Chah Nulth people.
Programming and curation for the Tatus Festival has been done by Canoe Cultures, an internationally renowned Indigenous led organization, dedicated to the art and culture of the canoe, and the artists who create them. The not-for-profit organization presents visual and performing arts as the primary means of transmitting Indigenous culture and communicating identity, place and belonging.
